Remote Access Change
March 15, 2011

Remote Access Instructions - March 2011 (PDF) >>

Download NAM Installer (Windows) >>

Beginning March 17, you will need to take one additional step before logging into your workstation remotely:

Login at http://go.udayton.edu/vpn with your LDAP username and password (this link will only work from off-campus).  Leave this browser window open and you will be able to access secure campus resources with the steps you use currently.

NOTE: For your convenience, this website is also linked through http://porches.udayton.edu.  You'll find "Remote Desktop/VPN" in the "Campus Resource" folder of links on the Porches Front Porch tab.

Additionally, Novell drives, to which we had blocked off-campus access due to security concerns, will be accessible off-campus once you've logged into the website above and then authenticated to your Novell client (as you would do on campus).

Web Registration: Viewing Schedules after Registering (October, 2010)
PROBLEM:  When students register for courses, they are unable to see their completed schedule using the schedule display functions in Web Registration until the following day.

CAUSE:  When a student registers for a course, that information is written to the academic records portion of the Colleague database.  A sub-function of the Unidata database should also automatically write an index record to the index database.  The index is not being updated.  Web Registration reads the schedule data from the index.  Since the index has not been updated properly, it appears that the registration is not complete.

ACTIONS: Numerous attempts have been made to resolve this problem.  We have been actively working for the vendors, Datatel and IBM for months to no avail.  The exact nature of the problem points to an underlying function of the Unidata database.  We had been working with the database vendor (IBM) to enhance the debug functions available to us.  Recently, IBM sold Unidata so we are now receiving support from another vendor which has impacted our ability to move this forward.  We are rebuilding the index nightly to facilitate the display in Web Reg.

WORK AROUND: Students can verify their registrations immediately after registering by going to Web Advisor at webadvisor.udayton.edu, logging in and selecting Transcripted Courses/Grades. At the beginning of the transcript, registered courses are listed.
