Department of History
A Welcome From the Chair, Dr. Julius Amin:
On behalf of the History Department at the
University of Dayton, I would like to welcome you to the department’s website. Browsing through this site will introduce you to the department’s vision statement, faculty C.Vs, course offerings, degree requirements, and links to other significant sites in the university. The sum total of human experience, our history program prepares students to succeed in a rapidly changing global environment. It is challenging, rigorous, and fosters critical thinking, as well as knowledge of the past. Internet and new technology sources are an important part of the program. The department offers courses on a variety of regions including the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East, and Latin America. The department’s faculty subscribe to the teacher/scholar model, whereby they not only bring to the classrooms the most recent scholarly findings and interpretations in their fields, but they also publish their research in major publication outlets. Working in close collaboration with programs such as the Women Studies, Africana Studies, American Studies, CORE, Honors Program, Catholic Marianist Tradition, and the International Studies Program, the History Department has emerged as a vital center within the university. Our graduates are placed regularly in prestigious graduate and law schools, and in rewarding careers including teaching, government, and business.
Feel free to e-mail me or any other faculty member to request more information about our mission, program, and methods.
